#1. “The Money Tree” Book

the money tree

Chris Guillebeau’s new book he recently came out with. Gave out a few copies the other week, however this one’s my personal copy and seeing how I’m currently on a “money book” reading hiatus (gotta expand my interests! Lol…), thought it would be better on your shelves than mine :)

Here’s more on it from his website:

The Money Tree uses a compelling story with captivating characters to share its core insight: if you’re struggling with debt, there’s a way out—without giving up your lattes…

Jake Aarons is in trouble. He’s being evicted from his apartment in less than 30 days, the bill for his $50,000 in overdue student loans is almost due, and the digital marketing agency he works at just implemented a new military-style grading system that might cost him his job. To top it off, Jake’s new relationship with Maya was going so well… but with everything else falling down around him, he might lose her, too.

In search of answers, Jake reluctantly attends a weekly group meeting at the invitation of a coworker. Everyone in the group is trying to create a lucrative side hustle with one key requirement: they can only spend up to $500 before earning a profit. Over the course of several weeks, Jake undertakes a series of challenges, first learning how to make $1,000 in a single weekend, and ultimately how to discover the untapped skills he needs to take control of his finances–and his life.

#2. Ekster® Senate Cardholder w/ Solar Powered Tracker Card

ekster senate cardholder

This one was shipped to me for a possible review, but turns out it’s not really my thing so passing it on out there in case it’s yours :)

The *interesting* part of this though is the SOLAR POWERED TRACKER CARD where you can track where your wallet is at all times in case it ever gets lost/stolen! And could even be repurposed for other items around your house if you don’t use this type of wallet either ;)

More on the wallet, and tracker, from Ekster below: (and btw, not a knock at all on them for this not being my thing. I just happen to like using my boring ol’ normal money clip, and this was an attempt on my behalf of trying to spice it up a bit!)

Senate Cardholder

The Senate is a slim leather cardholder with quick card access and a removable cash strap. The built-in aluminum cardholder fans out your cards at the click of a button and protects them against skimming. Add a tracker to make it unlosable.

  • Quick card access mechanism
  • RFID blocking technology
  • Premium leather

Solar Powered Tracker Card:

ekster tracking card

Can’t find your wallet? Not sure where you left that bag? Our credit card-sized tracker card is the difference between stress and streamlining your essentials. Just use your phone to ring your stuff, or see where you last had it on a map.

  • Wallet & phone ringing feature
  • Worldwide Lost & Found Network
  • 3 hours of solar charge lasts 2 full months
  • Voice-activated using Siri, Alexa or Google

Chris’ book since I need something to read in quarantine. Thanks

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 8:18 AM

      Good call, haha…

  2. Lindsey May 19, 2020 at 7:38 AM

A 1-1 consult. I’m looking into dipping my toe into real estate and have a tricky inheritance situation, so someone to chat with would be amazing!

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 8:19 AM

      Well that sounds interesting!!

      Hopefully it’s a GOOD tricky situation :)

  3. Elaine May 19, 2020 at 7:49 AM

I would ask anyone who takes the mobile home investing course to please, please remember that we are talking about people and their homes here. I live in a mobile home park and at least 65% of the residents are elderly and or disabled. This is their last resort for housing. So I hope that no one gets the bright idea to rent homes out and then jack the rent up drastically for quick turnover. Let people lives in peace. Thanks.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 8:20 AM

      Thanks for the note!

I’d hope no one here would be that type of landlord but always a good reminder for sure.

    2. mobilehomegurl May 19, 2020 at 9:01 AM

      Most definitely Elaine! I agree.

For me since I work with people who want to own their homes, they pay me the same amount no matter what. Though, this is definitely a hot topic among mobile home parks when lot rents go up. Something I definitely want to talk about in my podcast launching soon:

      http://adventuresinmobilehomes.com/coming-soon-adventures-in-mobile-homes-podcast/

Appreciate the comment. And special thanks to J for including my mobile home investing course in the giveaway! :)

  4. Peter Schmalzried May 19, 2020 at 8:01 AM

I’m very interested in the Money Tree book because my family and I are on track to completely pay off our student loans next year and I’ve always been looking for more creative ways to make/save money for this current life goal!

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 8:32 AM

      How wonderful!!

      Early congrats!

  5. Nora May 19, 2020 at 8:17 AM

The wallet tracker would come in handy, since I switch among purses and pockets, and ride (or used to, anyway) trains to work. I live alone, and can only blame myself after misplacing $&@&! and wasting time searching for it.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 8:21 AM

Haha.. that is true!! You’re now entered for it!

  6. Libby May 19, 2020 at 8:17 AM

    Another fun give away!

I’d love to have the telephone chat with you and get your ideas for solving a coin mystery.

A family record book lists that my gg grandfather was the founder of the Numismatic Club of Hartford and “left a collection of six hundred silver and three hundred bronze coins chiefly Greek and Roman from the seventh century BC” to a CT museum when he died in 1943. Two of us have contacted the museum over the decades and received the same response – that during WWII was a confusing time and the museum has no record of the bequest.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 8:27 AM

      WOW WOW WOW!!

      That is a mystery!!

      And quite the collection!

No one at the club has any idea of where it could have been? Any inventory of it anywhere that might help zero it in? Is the club still around??

A real life treasure hunt! Haha… Your gg grandfather is someone I’d very much be friends with in real life! :)

      1. Libby May 21, 2020 at 8:40 AM

What a good idea to follow up on the Numismatic club angle! I hadn’t thought of that. I’m also wondering if the probate court has a record of his will with an inventory. Probably need to wait until government more fully opens up before following that thread.

I would like to have known him too! When my grandfather would go to visit his grandparents (my gg grandparents), he was told to “run across the street and see if the wild Hepburn girl could play.” Yup they lived across the street from Katherine Hepburn’s parents!

  7. Joel May 19, 2020 at 8:18 AM

Definitely the coin viewer! I had one when I was a kid (mid 60’s) and had to throw it out because it broke. I must have spent a hundred hours using it. It would be incredible to have one again.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 8:29 AM

      Haha that is awesome!!

I’m secretly hoping you win it now! :)

  8. Brian May 19, 2020 at 9:09 AM

The solar powered card wallet sounds pretty cool. I do love a good slim wallet. Not sure how often I would get it in the sun to get it charged so its a good thing the battery lasts that long

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:01 PM

Funny story – so as i was testing it I laid it on the front of my car to charge up and then got sidetracked and left it there…. came back 5 hours later and it was gone! Realized I had gone to the store and it must have flown off somewhere within the 10 mile radius! Figured I’d start looking by just walking down the street and see if I get lucky, and lo and beold there it was – IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD – without a scratch on it! Seemed to work just fine, but I suppose we’ll know for sure when the winner goes to use it :)

      1. Brian May 20, 2020 at 9:19 AM

Well, if nothing else, it sounds like a durable wallet. My current wallet is made out of the roof on the old football stadium in town. It managed to survive all sorts of extreme weather.. but apparently my pocket is too powerful and it is starting to wear out.

        1. J. Money May 20, 2020 at 10:14 AM

HAH! What stadium??? (Don’t say the Cowboys’!!!)

  9. Spence May 19, 2020 at 9:12 AM

I am working during the pandemic and very grateful that I have a job. However, the stress is affecting everyone and I am seeing the bad side of everyone, including myself. I don’t want to work in this situation ever again. I need the courage to break away and work on my own.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:03 PM

Damn, sorry to hear that :( BUT THANK YOU FOR WORKING DURING THIS!! Not sure what your job is but it’s gotta be helping some part of the community!

I take it you’re interested in either the book or the 1 hour call?

  10. Spence May 19, 2020 at 9:15 AM

I am interested in The Money Tree book.

  11. Lee Stuart May 19, 2020 at 10:01 AM

Definitely want to register for a 1 on 1 and let J Money shoot me straight.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:03 PM

      Haha…. entered!

  12. Paula May 19, 2020 at 10:24 AM

    Money Tree!

I’m one of those people in Illinois who are half self-employed and half W2 who is 75 percent unemployed but ineligible for unemployment, so I’m looking at this as a challenge to find a better way going forward to make a living.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:06 PM

Ugh, such a tricky spot to be in.

  13. Josh May 19, 2020 at 10:49 AM

One-on-one consulting! I’m towards the end of the fire journey and met with another blogger pre-pandemic on a similar consult. Now, post-pandemic (or at least mid-quarantine), it would be valuable to meet you and go through our situation. I’d treasure your thoughts and value your insight…and take appropriate action.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:06 PM

Hey, cool!! Early congrats on almost being at the finish line!

  14. Amar Patel May 19, 2020 at 11:05 AM

I’m interested in the book! Always looking for good personal finance knowledge and something interesting to do during quarantine.

  15. Gretchen Pietri May 19, 2020 at 11:35 AM

I would love batch #4 Coin magazines and viewer. I’m 62 yrs old and have watched my father collect coins since I was a little girl. He is now 98 1/2 years old and has started giving me most of his collection. I want to keep learning and continue his hobby so I can teach my grandkids.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:20 PM

      WOWWWW very cool!!

What a hobby to pass down – I’m sure he’s thrilled you’re interested in it!!

You are now entered! :) Make sure to pick up a copy of the “Red Book” too so you can learn and help grade/value the coins too!

      https://www.amazon.com/2019-Book-72nd-Spiral-Values/dp/B07GBGMSB5

Here are some other tips you might find helpful, though you can ignore the “selling/liquidation” parts to it:

  16. Joe May 19, 2020 at 11:53 AM

I am interested in the money tree book. I would like to read it then give it to a friend who owns a pawn shop called The Money Tree. Thanks!

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:20 PM

      HAH! That is awesome!

  17. J.R. May 19, 2020 at 11:59 AM

Thanks to all for this. I’d be interested in Rachel’s course. I’ve only been a R.E. investor for about a year. Definitely still have a lot to learn. Thus far, I’ve only looked at SFR’s. But interested in learning other strategies. Not sure if Mobil Home investing is for me, but interested in learning.

To Elaine above, I tend to think of myself as a win-win type. If I can build wealth by investing while at the same time providing affordable housing for folks in the areas where they want to live, that’s win-win.

    Thanks!

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:21 PM

      I like it – you’re entered :)

  18. Kristen May 19, 2020 at 12:37 PM

I’d like to enter for the 1-on-1 chat. I’m working on an “intro to money” comic book targeting older teens & early 20s, and I could use some tips on the business (blogging?) side of things.

      1. Kristen May 20, 2020 at 10:55 AM

        That’s fantastic!

  19. Laura May 19, 2020 at 12:55 PM

I’d love the money tree book! Esp. since I didn’t win it the first time. LOL. I’m looking for some ways up increase my slush fund because I’ll be having some big house projects coming over the next few years and I’m a single mom. I can use the help finding some more $.

  20. J May 19, 2020 at 1:03 PM

I would like to enter for the solar wallet. I like the idea of having something that blocks RFIDs, is small, and can easily be moved between various purse/bag sizes. When I was going into the office I was taking public transportation, so portability and trackability would be very useful. (I could’ve used that tracking feature when I accidently left my favorite umbrella on the train!)

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:24 PM

      This is all true! Haha…

      You’re entered :)

  21. Melissa Wiley May 19, 2020 at 1:04 PM

Would love the copy of The Money Tree! I’m currently evacuated from my diplomatic post and working on getting my financial life organized and fine-tuned while temporarily living with my parents and having almost zero out of pocket expenses.

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:25 PM

      Interesting!

Are you allowed to say what country you’re normally positioned at?

      1. Melissa Wiley May 19, 2020 at 5:09 PM

I’m currently posted in Liberia. Belgium is up next – which will be more expensive and a lower salary since I’m losing “hardship” pay, hence needing to get my finances in order!

        1. J. Money May 20, 2020 at 6:16 AM

Oh wow!! What an experience though!! :)

  22. Debora Johnson May 19, 2020 at 2:33 PM

    J.,

Thanks for passing things on. Always something to look forward to. I’d like the money book. I know a lot of people struggling with debt and would love more ways to get thru to them. Thanks, take care.

  23. Kristin K May 19, 2020 at 2:50 PM

I’d love the opportunity to test out the wallet/tracker. My spouse would lose his head if it wasn’t attached to his body and always misplacing items. This would be a great opportunity to help keep track of a few things :) Thanks for the opportunity!

  24. Wallet Squirrel May 19, 2020 at 2:58 PM

Ha ha ha, I was just thinking of doing the same over on Wallet Squirrel as I began my spring cleaning! I’m taking notes. =)
    -Andrew

    1. J. Money May 19, 2020 at 4:26 PM

It’s a win-win all around! You get to declutter while your community gets to put things to use! :)

  25. gustavo May 19, 2020 at 3:15 PM

    jay,

would love a chance to read “The Money Tree” I Think chris is a great author and his writing along with his message always resonates well with me.

  26. Kate May 19, 2020 at 6:27 PM

I’d love to have The Money Tree. It’s on my list to read but who knows when the libraries are going to reopen…

  27. AB May 19, 2020 at 6:53 PM

The Money Tree :) Seems like a really interesting new spin on the personal finance genre, and also I would be super intimidated by a 1-on-1 haha

    1. J. Money May 20, 2020 at 6:18 AM

      Haha… I’m not that scary! We’d have fun! ;)

  28. David Hunter May 19, 2020 at 10:39 PM

#2 The Senate Cardholder! I have a similar one but it’s a spinner and getting worn out from lots of use. :-)

  29. Cindy May 19, 2020 at 11:29 PM

The Money Tree, please. I need another book to read during our stay at home order. Thanks for all you do, J.

    1. J. Money May 20, 2020 at 6:19 AM

      Thanks, Cindy :)

  30. catseye May 20, 2020 at 3:26 AM

I’m interested in #4, the coin mags and the coin viewer. I’d love to learn more about coins and coin collecting because I love to pick up dropped change. Also, as a cashier I come across interesting coins every now and then. About 6 months ago, I found a German 5-pfenning coin dated 1940. It has clearly been in circulation for all of these many decades. I’d love to have a coin viewer to examine it closely. And yes, there is a Reichsadler on it.

    1. J. Money May 20, 2020 at 6:20 AM

Oh man, you have the perfect job for coin collecting! You’ll be able to spot the all the goodies that come your way! :)

  31. Kate May 20, 2020 at 11:34 AM

I’m interested in #5. I’d want to talk about investing and college funds.

  32. Justin May 20, 2020 at 5:13 PM

Man I’d love to jump on a 1-on-1 phone consultation with you J Money! Just started blogging after 7ish years of promising myself I would start. At least I held to my promise hah. Thank you for putting out this giveaway by the way.

    1. J. Money May 21, 2020 at 8:50 AM

      Haha there you go!!

You did the hardest step! Congrats! :)

      You having fun so far?

  33. DaveC May 20, 2020 at 8:44 PM

The Card holder/Tracker would be a great fit for me because I’m a Nerd and love techy stuff. I’m also working on downsizing the Leather Lump I carry around and this looks like a stylish, functional and Geeky (did I mention I’m a Nerd?) way to do so.
Best of success in your future endeavors, sir!

    1. J. Money May 21, 2020 at 8:52 AM

      Thank you sir!

And this would be the perfect item for you! Ever since I went down to my money clip I never missed a normal wallet again :) And this one here is kinda like a happy medium so not as much of a drastic change.

  34. AdrianB May 20, 2020 at 8:51 PM

The Money Tree book sounds great.

  35. Amy May 21, 2020 at 3:53 AM

Chris’ book because I really want to read it, but the library is closed and I don’t want to pay full price! Thanks.

  36. J. Money May 21, 2020 at 8:53 AM

I can’t wait for libraries to open up again :(

I know you can get digital ones still but not the same as REAL LIFE BOOKS!

  37. Matt May 21, 2020 at 10:58 AM

I’d be interested in the 1-1 chat as I just came into a lot of free time (the one upside to unemployment :P) and I’m in the process of reviving my old blog. I would love to get your perspectives on blogging and how you approach it.

    1. J. Money May 21, 2020 at 4:19 PM

      Oh man!!

I hope it kickstarts you into a whole new adventure/career with your free time! Scary but also THRILLING if you go after some long lost dreams :)

Got you into the drawing now – start writing you heart out!

  38. BK May 21, 2020 at 4:49 PM

I would love a chance to win the mobile home investing course. I have done some real estate flips in the past, and would love to learn the ins and outs of mobile home investing. I have tried to do some research (including reading on Rachel’s site) on the topic, but a soup-to-nuts course would be fantastic! I am planning on getting into some form of rental property investing in the next 12 months, and was leaning towards ‘stick built’ homes due to the greater volume of education available. However, I am passionate about affordable housing, and I believe that mobile home investing can fill a crucial niche in the housing market.

Thank you for the offer, and for all you have done with the site J. I have read for a long time, and you will be missed!

    1. J. Money May 22, 2020 at 2:11 PM

      Hey, thanks!! Means a lot!

  39. Kristin Halls May 21, 2020 at 6:33 PM

I am most definitely interested in Rachel Hernandez’s Mobile Home Investing course! I’ve been binge listening to podcasts about mobile home investing because it’s something I want to get into when we move out west next year. Time to quit the 9-5 and take on some investing opportunities instead!

  40. Ryan Goer May 22, 2020 at 1:28 PM

Im interested in the Mobile home course by Rachael Hernandez. In addition to being a hospice nurse, i would like to serve those who need help with affordable housing. Real estate is my passion and I believe I can serve those in need regarding Mobile home Real estate. I also follow Rachaels blog post and im a huge fan of hers. I would be an ethical mobile home investor with integrity and i know the mobile home course will help and guide me to serve those in need.

  41. Ryan Goer May 22, 2020 at 1:33 PM

I forgot to add Racheal does not use debt to invest..so this course is aligned with my values. This course would be a great starting point with my investing career

    1. J. Money May 22, 2020 at 2:10 PM

Rock on! I didn’t know that about her strategy!

  42. Jackie May 22, 2020 at 4:07 PM

Of course I’m interested in the call with you :)
It’d be like a mini-FinCon minus the shouting! (And also, I’d LOVE to get your input on some projects…)

    1. J. Money May 25, 2020 at 7:52 AM

Haha… it’ll def. be interesting to see what happens with FinCon this year!! I have a feeling it’s going to break some of our attendance records! ;)

  43. David @ Dads and Dollar$ May 22, 2020 at 5:43 PM

I was going to say I would love “The Money Tree”…and I probably would.

But you know what? It would just be another book I don’t necessarily have space for in my house right now…and probably yet another one that I start but never get around to finishing.

So…I think I’d rather have the 1-1 call. There’s a lot I would like to do, but getting organized and making some progress is proving to be difficult for me. At this point, I’ll take all the help I can get.
