Getting Financially Naked is Good for You :)

Get Financially NakedAnd by “financially naked” we mean “financially honest.” After all, if you can’t be straight with your significant other, who can you be straight with?

So in honor of Valentine’s day, we’ll be giving away TWO copies of the new hit book – “Get Financially Naked: How to Talk Money with Your Honey” by Manisha Thakor & Sharon Kedar.

The winners won’t get them until *after* V-Day (cuz a certain someone was slackin’ on his game) but you’ll still enjoy it just the same! Plus I don’t think finances will be on your mind then anyways ;)

Here’s what Amazon has to say about it:

“This inspiring, action-oriented guide helps young women in committed relationships understand and manage their money matters. Complete with charts, graphs, case studies, and tip-based advice, this succinct, straightforward guide speaks to worried women in the same way that made On My Own Two Feet a mega-success.”

What do you think? Want to win it? I know it says it’s geared towards women out there, but having read some of it myself I can honestly say it’s still a pretty good read for men. Especially men who want to understand women more, and/or suck at communication ;) Maybe you both could read it together?

Here’s what to do to win:

  • Leave a comment with what you and the mr/mrs will be doing this Valentine’s weekend.
  • Leave contact info (email, blog, twitter)

Do it by midnight on Saturday, Feb. 13th, and you’ll be entered to win one of TWO free copies! I’ll use Random.org to select the winners, and I’ll announce ’em back on this post by Monday. Good luck everyone! It’s gonna be a great weekend, that’s for sure ;)

—————
*Open to only those with U.S. mailing addresses (sorry)
** But you can always grab the book on Amazon
—————
*GIVEAWAY OVER* The 2 lucky winners are…..Investing Newbie and Mrs. Money! Congrats ladies :) Stay tuned for more giveaways coming up soon.

We're having a candle-lit dinner for 5(us and 3 kids). Tonight we're going out for dinner. That was supposed to be a couples massage class, but was canceled. Yesterday was flowers. I've moved past Valentine's Day this year. I'm doing Valentine's Month. Something nice for my wife, every single day.

The BF and I are going to see Valentine's Day and then probably out to dinner. I'm a sucker for those kind of movies.

Next week, we're going on a cruise to the Caribbean which is a combo of Xmas, Hanukkah, anniversary, and Valentine's Day. I can't wait to get out of the DC snow.

Well I am newly divorced. However, this weekend is my 35th birthday! So I'll be celebrating with by best friend who loves me better than a husband ever could :) While married I attended Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace class and started the baby steps. I'd like this book to be able to continue excellent money habits and conversations in my next relationship. That and I"m just a financial book junkie :)

Oohhh! Sounds like an interesting read!

D and I decided to go low-key for Valentine's Day because we don't want the clutter that gifts bring to the apartment (last year it was balloons and a giant stuffed frog), and we don't want to spend a lot of money. So we're going to order Chinese takeout, curl up on the couch and enjoy some TV together. :) We're also going to see a concert in Atlanta the day before Valentine's Day – it was my xmas gift to him – so we'll have enough fun on Saturday to carry us through to Sunday.

We're going on a "Wine Tour" in 'Strong Island." Three wine estates, unlimited wine and cheese, a dinner and we each get to make a bottle of wine! It's gonna be a shnazzy affair.

  17. Chuck February 11, 2010 at 4:26 PM

Duck, wine and linzer cookies. Never made the duck or the cookies so it could be an interesting V-day to say the least. Also, El has the day off on Monday and I do not. Tell me that teacher's do not have the best job.

  18. Anonymous February 11, 2010 at 4:27 PM

Well, first, we need to dig out of the 3 feet of snow on the ground. If we can manage that, we're going to head down to my parents' house in NC for the holiday weekend with the kiddos since no school or work on Monday. My parents offered to watch the kids so we could go out to supper on V-Day! WOO-HOO!!

We have a great FREE* activity that we do every Valentines Day (*free if you already have a video camera). We make a video…no, not that kind of video;) Basically it is a taped conversation. We talk about the previous year, highs and lows, where we are and were we want to be life wise, kid wise, career wise, higher ed wise, vacations, etc. It is really fun. Takes about 30 minutes and we think they will be fun to watch when we are old and gray and fun for our kids to see how we were in our 'younger' years. This will be our 6th year doing this.
Also we traded nights with a some friends and they are watching our kids on Friday and we'll watch their son on Saturday so we can go out. Another budget friendly idea-sitters get expensive!
    Thanks for the giveaway J.

She always jokes that her ideal date is Beer, Chicken and UFC. I got a Best Of UFC DVD being delivered with a bucket of chicken to her place. It should arrive right around the time she gets mad at me for completely filling her fridge with her favourite beer. Sounds like I'm dating a guy :P She'll never expect to get her "dream date"

  35. Monevator February 11, 2010 at 9:52 PM

Alas I recently split up with my girlfriend. I'll be lying in bed alone, wondering where it all went wrong, and eating chocolates while listening to a voicemail she left my in 2006.

(I'm kidding. Well, we split up but I'm okay about it. I'm just trying to garner some sympathy. I'll be doing none of those things on the 14th. In fact, I'll be visiting my parents and making them dinner!)

OoooOO I really want a free copy of this book. Ok this is what DH and I will be doing for this Valentine's Day.

City Center opened back in December 2009 so we decided to fly to Las Vegas to catch all the excitment of this new place. We'll be staying at the Aria hotel casino which is own by MGM. Later that night, we plan to dine at the Bellagio buffet and catch the cirque du soleil O show. It's just a short 2.5 day trip. But since it's a long holiday weekend and of course paydays, it was too good of timing to pass up for this year.

    Here's my blog :) http://moneyhoneysf.blogspot.com/

  40. Kelli February 11, 2010 at 11:42 PM

The hubby and I don't usually go out to dinner on Valentine's Day anymore since many restaurants are super-busy on that night. So we'll probably order in a pizza, hang out watching movies with our dog, and play board games. I will, however, have already purchased a few very good quality chocolates (I have an insane sweet tooth, so I must celebrate with at least a little candy!). We like to keep it pretty casual, laid-back, and affordable.

We wanna get naked. Send it along baby!

  43. Brad February 12, 2010 at 4:07 AM

This looks like a good book my friend! I hope I win it!

We are going to do Valentines Day Frugal style. I will probably cook my wife's favorite dinner. BIG FAT JUICY steak cooked just right, with home made mashed taters, and steamed broccoli. Then if we can manage to send the kids to Nana's house, we may go check out a movie, but as much as we both hate spending the money to go to the theater, we may end up just coming home and curling up with a cheap bag of popcorn and watching whatever movie my wife wants.

I'm saving the big bucks for her birthday which is March. (It will be the first time we have bought each other gifts for birthdays in two years.) Now that we are debt free it's time to splurge a little, then get back on track.

The truth is that we have never been big spenders on Valentines day. (we feel Christmas, birthdays, and anniversaries are enough to make us spend money) I kind of hate holidays J. :D

Not the holidays themselves, but what they have come to represent. Damn I just wrote a book. Have a great weekend J.

P.S. Your DEBT FREE NEWS questionnaire will be going live tomorrow. :)

My husband is in the Air Force, so I'm alone on Valentine's Day. But my girlfriends and I are going out to dinner. One of my girlfriend's has her boyfriend in the Army and the other is single, so they are my dates for Valentine's. We're dressing up and going to a nice Italian restaurant. 54. Abigail February 12, 2010 at 10:27 PM

Well, usually we do a nice dinner out, by which I mean a $30-40 affair because I'm cheap and just don't buy into Valentine's Day much. But this year, things are extra tight: Tim's flying up to a wedding and will need a rental car. So my mom sent us a $30 Amex GC she got as a rebate. We're going to use it to get a bite out.

What uber-romantic place? TGIFriday's. Seriously. Tim never gets to go, and they're having some specials. Plus we won't have to worry about getting a reservation at this late date.

Am I romantic or WHAT? (Sadly, Tim's actually excited about it. We're just kooky, I guess.)
