I don’t know what’s going on in the music world right now, but I’m LOVING the lessons coming out of pop culture! First we had Lorde spitting lyrical lessons on money, and now we’ve got infamous Britney Spears reminding us what it takes to be successful – what is this world coming to?? ;)
(That’s right, I listen to Britney Spears, son – don’t hate!)
Now I should note this latest song of hers isn’t nearly as profound as The Royals one – especially when the materialism is running rampant – but nonetheless the takeaway is key.
Here’s a snippet of Britney’s new song aptly titled, “Work B*tch” (NSFW, obvs):
You want a hot body?
You want a Bugatti?
You want a Maserati?You better work bitch…
You want a Lamborghini?
Sip Martinis?
Look hot in a bikini? You better work bitch…
BAM! Take that, lazy bones! You want to look good ridin’ or flexing those muscles? You better work it, bitch! You want that career, or freedom, or baller status of being a full-time blogger?? You want to get out of debt or retire when you’re 30? Time to start hustling, bitch!
Straight and to the point – I love it. Hard work will get you whatever you want in life.
Here’s more:
You want to live fancy?
Live in a big mansion?
Party in France? You better work bitch…
Okay, The BookieBoos are shining pretty hard here, but let’s try and overlook that lifestyle and get back to the moral – which is that YOU NEED TO WORK HARD to achieve your goals. And though there’s no shortage of hits promoting fancy cars/houses/hot bodies, at least it’ll connect with 99% of the public which I can certainly get down with. Whatever gets them to hit pause and take action, right?
She then goes off her rocker and starts adding junk into the song (typical Brit Brit), but to fairly represent it – and do my journalistic diligence – I have to include it here so you know what you’re dealing with ;)
Go call the police.
Go call the governor.
I bring the trouble.
That means the trouble y’all (what else would it mean?)
I make it bubble up
Call me the bubbler (Lame.)
I am the bad bitch
The bitch that you’ll never know (I’m pretty sure we all know about you)
Moving along now… She eventually gets back to the point of hustling and pretty much tells us to just quit all of our yapping and to finally pull that trigger on ACTION. A la Nike – “just do it!”
Bring it on
Ring the alarm
Don’t stop now
Just be the champion
Work it hard like it’s your profession
So. Britney Spears regains some of her respect she’s lost over the years, and is now sorta-kinda-not-really up in the ranks of Lorde now with her positive messages ;) In fact, they make quite the duo if you think about it:
First, you blast some Royals to get your mind right and focused, then you put on some Work It B*tch to make it happen! Kinda like going to the gym – Lorde gets you all pumped up and motivated to actually *go*, and then Britney flows through your veins while you’re physically doing the work out. It’s peanut butter and jelly, baby! (Just never, EVER, let people around you find out you’re listening to Britney Spears for motivation ;) Especially at the gym.)
Now, get to work bitch!

Can we take a poll on the best Britney song? Is there a poll function on this blog?? Just for fun haha!
But there are so many =)
Lucky!

That’s a good one!! I vote for Hit Me Baby One More Time!
Agreed! And I love it that Britney is now breaking into the personal finance scene. Such wise advice from such a pretty pop star. Want nice things, you gotta work for them.
Love it J$! Who knew we could get such wisdom from Britney? ;) It’s dead on though. Congrats on the new upcoming little one btw!
Thanks man – we’re pretty excited about him/her :)
It’s a great theme if you just take out all the materialistic stuff out (at least for me). But if that is what makes you work harder, than why no!
And we should take a poll of the best song! I’ll stick to the original, ‘baby one more time’.
Right. I’d swap them for other things myself, but whatever gets us moving towards our goals :)
If it inspires you and makes you hustle more, that’s good. I also have some music that keeps me going and make me light up my after burners.
Oh yeah? What type of artists? I need some more to get me pumping :)
The message of this song goes against everything I stand for ;-).
Haha, I bet ;)
Haha, I had a post on this exact same thing last week! Who knew such wise words could come from Britney Spears? :)
HAH! Awesome… we’re smart bloggers ;)
Inspiration from a woman who can’t manage her own financial affairs and has a court appointed financial conservatorship.
I am using Katie Perry’s Roar as my inspiration and call to action.
That’s a good one too :)
Well, she could always say she doesn’t say manage your money wisely in her song. She just says work, which she does do in her own terms. LOL
haha… indeed!
LOL. Been hearing this song on the radio recently and had no idea this was Spears. First Ashton, then The Royals, and now Brittany. What the heck is going on?
Awesomeness is what’s going on!!
The irony is that her body was apparently drastically altered via CGI to make it thinner and more toned in the video. Google Britney Spears CGI…
I think you would be hard pressed to find many videos or pictures that aren’t touched up in todays world. It’s really kind of sad that we’ve created such unrealistic image that even the professional models of the world can’t meet it.
Oh man, I bet… maybe she doesn’t want a hot body right now and only to make sexy music? ;)
That’s awesome. I’m excited to see what song is next.
I luv this song. I can listen to it everyday on my way to work and it is great for the gym. More artist need to be sending this message to listeners.
Hmm interesting song for the radio when half of it is curse words. Haha your interpretation of her song is fun! I doubt that’s what she intended the message to be but hey it works if you can actually make out what she’s saying.
I’ll have to ask her the next time we chat ;)
Gosh I love me some Britney – She’s cray cray but she was my first concert in the 6th grade so I have to give her some love. :)
It’s amazing what kind of truth lies in simplicity. Sure, the song is not exactly a work of lyrical genius, but it proves one of the most fundamental aspects of the American Dream. If you want it, you have to work for it. I use this song for motivation at the gym, and for getting through college!
YES! Exactly!!
Fun fact: the British Navy uses Brittany Spears songs to drive away Somali pirates. They say it works better than guns.
(Booooooooooooooooooo)
Ok we’ve got the work ethic covered – now maybe a song that inspires girls to be something other than strippers?
Okay, now you’re asking for too much ;)
I haven’t heard this song yet, so I’ll have to take a listen. Brit Brit might be a tad cray, but damn that woman has worked so hard for everything she has.
My first cd was Britney’s debut album. In fact, I swiped money from my parents change jar and hit up the Coinstar at the local Fred Meyer to buy it. That’s all I’m going to admit on the internets, though.
Hahaha…. that is some hardcore fan love right there. If it makes you feel better the first cd I bought was Kris Kross :)
I would say Kris Kross is mucho less embarrassing than Britney Spears haha
It seems like she goes in and out of having an English accent in this and other songs. I’m not sure where that’s coming from. Still can’t complain about anyone that encourages us all to put in a little more effort.
I know, right? I feel like a LOT of singers’ voices go into accents here and there… I don’t even think they mean it to either – it’s just what they think *sounds good* when they’re doing it. At least that’s my only reasoning for it :)
I love Britney! She may have had a nervous breakdown in 2007, but she has come back stronger and smarter because of it (as evidenced by this song).
She def. keeps on going, that’s for sure!
I hope the message gets through to some folks who really need to hear it… hustle, hustle and work for it!
“Royals” has become my anthem since I read about it on your post, no joke , haha. It’s also the perfect beat for my long runs! Maybe I’ll have to mix in some Britney too ;)
Cool!! Love hearing that! :)
J you don’t need to be ashamed of your musical taste as I like those songs. Of course when I was single I had to hide my taste in music before I was able to trick my wife to falling in love with me. She doesn’t like my taste in music, the beauty of being married she’s stuck.
Thata boy!
Ah I love Britney and I hope this comeback is the one that stays. Despite her new image and new look I am REALLY loving Miley Cyrus right now – her new song We Can’t Stop is about everything that I stand for as a person. Love it.
You’re right, Miley’s all kinda of dope these days. Despite what people say and hate on. She may not be the best role model for youngin’s, but damn she’s good at what she does. And especially at marketing! She has the entire world talking about her!
I don’t think Britney Spears’ music is not sending out financial advice. Funny that she says work, when she has made her millions from crappy songs and bad publicity. She is just promoting what your blog is against, making money and filling it with instant gratification and material items.
Lordes, “Royals” is not about money. It is simply stating that most people in our world are not celebrities and we will never be like them. The lyrics state that it is okay to have a normal life.
You don’t think Britney has worked to get to where she is?? She was hustling (and making tons of money) before she was like 8 or something crazy like that… She had already made it big way before she went nutso.
