Here are a bunch of AWESOME ways to quit your job…
… If you’ve got another one lined up
… Or a side hustle that’s kicking ass
… And by “kicking ass” I mean “making enough money to replace your day job so you don’t end up in a van down by the river”
… If you’ve got the balls the size of Texas
… And if you don’t care about making a spectacle of yourself ;)
Quit #1: Do it in front of 100 million people on Super Bowl Sunday
I saw this one over at a new blog I’ve been reading, Debt Discipline, and I can’t believe I missed it during the Super Bowl!! A DAMN good way to say “I quit.” Plus, how can you go wrong with puppets?
Quit #2: Make a (playable) video game out of it
OMG this is one is good… Click to play it and see what happens ;) It’ll take you like 3 seconds.
Quit #3: Make a Dance Video. At Work.
Here’s a note from the quitter before you watch :)
“I work for an awesome company that makes news videos. I have put my life into this job, but my boss says quantity, speed and views are what is most important. I believe it’s more important to focus on the quality of the content. When you learn to improve this, the views will come. Here is a little video I made explaining my feelings.”
And then she signs off with a link to her website like a boss (Marinavshifrin.com). Love it.
And here’s how her boss took it ;)
Quit #4: Do it on your own radio show
This one comes from radio host, Inetta “the Moodsetta”, who apparently had enough ;) The last line is classic: “So if you’re confused about what I’m saying, listen carefully… I quit this b*tch” *Cuts to station ID clip* Haha…
Quit #5: Sing your way to the end
This one comes from my boy, Romeo Jeremiah, who shares a handful of hilarious videos like these to help motivate to quit ;) He’s also got a new book out called “The Wealth Number” ($9.99 @ Amazon) which helps people to get their finances in order before making the big leap.
Here’s the vid… I love that it was on the Steve Harvey show? Haha…
Quit #6: Make a spectacle out of it
This one’s a classic by Doug, aka “That Guy With The Glasses.” Equipped with a boombox, a wardrobe change, and some paint:
I think that gives you enough motivation :) Though don’t confuse “awesome” with “smart” here – I’m sure there are 1,001 more backfires with these that were quietly swiped under the rug. Along with the quitter’s dignity, haha…
But hey – you only work live once, right?
The “F MY JOB” T-Shirt Giveaway:
So after writing up this post and setting it to go out this morning, a good friend of mine (Vu) who created FMyJob.com randomly asked if I’d like to give away a handful of shirts to my blog readers.
At first I was like “Shirts?? WhoWantsShirts.com?” Haha… But then I thought, “They are kinda cool actually. And they’re Free. Maybe my readers would like them?” And since they fit perfectly with today’s topic, I figured it was a sign :)
So, up for grabs today are three “F My Job” t-shirts. But first, a little about FMyJob.com: It’s the “quickest and most efficient way of searching for jobs on the internet,” and if you try it out you’ll see what I mean. It has tons of job listings and way less ads than other sites, and it’s also great for searching foreign jobs out there too. My boy built it himself – it’s pretty cool.
Want one? Answer this question below in the comments and you’ll be entered to win. Just don’t forget and wear it at work unless you’re trying to make a statement like the people above :)
“On a scale from 1-10, how bad do you want to leave your job? 1 is none at all – you love it there! – and 10 is, well, saying you want to F’ing leave.”
Drop your answer below (feel free to comment anonymously), and we’ll random.org the 3 winners on Sunday and ship ’em off to you. They’re all gray and size Large, and something tells me my friend just wants to offload them out of his basement ;) But hey – his loss your gain!
Now click away from this post before your boss finds out what you’re up to!
—-
PS: Giveaway open to only U.S. and Canadian residents, sowee!
PPS: Big congrats to Vu for saying F You to his own job last year. He walks the walk…
PPPS: If you’re a lucky winner of one of these shirts and want to be famous, Vu said he’ll add up a picture of you wearing it on his site if you email one over ;) Though, again, unless you’re trying to get fired, be careful of who sees it!
***GIVEAWAY OVER*** Here are the 3 lucky winners: 1) Will S., 2) John @ Frugal Rules, 3) Betsy. Thanks for participating everyone – hope you enjoyed the article! :)

ahahah awsome ways to quit! I never did it in any awsome ways! one time I was abroad so noone really notice in the company, and one time I did it crying which I don’t think counts as awesome… love you blog :)
Awww, haha… It’s usually not an easy thing to do :)
Glad you like the blog!
Mine is a 3, I like my job but it’s not something I love.
7
After having a few corporate jobs, I landed at my current one. It ticks all the boxes. Great boss. Good environment. Good work. And it still isn’t fulfilling to me. As good as the job and the company are, I am more motivated than ever to become financially independent and work on my own projects.
So maybe then the job is PERFECT for you! Making you want to do your own thing even faster! Hehe…
Funny, I actually put in my notice at my job on Friday of last week, so I guess that makes me an 11! Beyond desire and into action!
My situation is a little different though–I love my job very much, but I only have such a short window of opportunity to go my own way (i.e. before having kids). So I’m taking it. I’m all signed up with FINRA and am launching a registered investment advisory practice in May/June. I couldn’t do that and still work my job, so I had to leave.
And, although my official “last day” is April 4, I may actually still end up working part-time or on a contract position since I was the only person in my department, and, well, no one did what I did. So in that way, I’m kind of a 1. I really love the company and am happy to stay around for a short period if it helps them out.
In other words, I’m somewhere between a 1 and an 11–which is also where my fear factor lies! Sometimes, I’m like, “I got this…please.” and others, I crawl into the fetal position in my closet and wait for apocalypse. The life of a new entrepreneur…
GOOD FOR YOU!!! I know it’s scary – we all find ourselves in that fetal position every now and then whether new or old entrepreneur! – but I’m so proud of you for going for it and giving it a shot :) Not an easy thing to do but seems like you’ve thought it through, and I agree the timing is great! Just give it your all and worst case you go back to a 9-5 again ya know? I think you’ll be just fine though. Excited for you!!
That Quit #2 is funny and I was surprised for the message! I’m sure if your boss would read that one he will get a heart attack! LOL!
4 or 5 depending on the day. I love my job, but it pays crap for all the puke, poop, and assholes I deal with. My fellow co-workers are awesome and some of the benefits are cool. I was surprised to see job postings for my area. I live in what I call a small town even though technically it’s a city. The job listings were basically what I could find on other sites, because here the best jobs go searching for people or by word of mouth. I will try fmyjob.con though as it’s much nicer than most job sites out there :)
Great post btw :)
Glad you like the site :) And, even better, my post!
Thanks for the mention J! The reactions on # 5 and 6 are priceless. The boss in #3 took it well!
My number is 8. I love the overall company, the department I’m in not so much.
You helped inspire the post!
#2 was incredible. I want to share this with people at work but am afraid of giving them the wrong idea haha
Good call ;)
I’ve always wished I had the balls to send a mass email to everyone that I work with. We’re talking thousands of people!
How much do I want to leave my job? It feels like a “10”, but I’d rate it at an “8” simply because I love getting paid a regular, pretty decent income. Tracking the number over time and I’m sure I’ll be hitting a “10” by Xmas!
Lol, these are classic – especially #4-6. Unfortunately my quitting wasn’t near this epic, but it did feel pretty damn good. So, I’d put my number at 0. :) Very cool on the FmyJob, especially doing it on his own!
Ha! Yeah, this is totally more like how to quit your “last” job. :)
I said F You to my job last September to start my own company and I WISH I could have been more creative about it rather than just a boring sit down with the boss. So if I were answering your question a year ago, I would have said 10. But now it is more like negative 10. I love my job and I am glad I said F You to corporate America.
Work it, girl!
I’ll go with a 7. The job itself isn’t horrible, but they get a lot of bang for their buck from all of us and I don’t think it is really appreciated, plus I’m really wanting my freedom!
There is a huge lottery in Ontario this Friday night. $50 million could be mine.
I would have to give notice because we are a small department and it would be a real hardship if someone left suddenly. I like most of my coworkers and would not do that to them.
I have already informed my coworkers that when I win I will be moving to Hawaii. They can visit and wave at me through the gate. If they linger too long one of the guards will shoo them away.
Haha… don’t forget to *play* then :) You can’t win if you don’t play!
10. But for other reasons. I actually love my job’s flexibility and pay. I’m over six figures at this point in my career. I just want to do other things that I am more passionate about, full time.
The reason why I’m not “walking away,” just yet, is because I’m 5 years away form a lifetime pension that includes medical care. I’d be an idiot to walk away at this point.
I’m actually envious of all my friends who hate their jobs but have little to lose if they walk away. I’d leave if I were them. Their biggest excuse is not having enough money saved. Hence, I wrote the book, The Wealth Number…for my friends to have the ability to maximize their savings, grow their wealth number, and buy themselves a year or more of time for a transition.
For those who think they want to “walk way” to purse a passion, like make it rich in real estate, or anything for that matter, I recommend Phil Pustejovsky’s most recent YouTube video, “Quit Your Job For Real Estate?” (http://youtu.be/byfhVh61pU8)
He brings up some pretty good points on why you should keep your day job. At a minimum, you should keep it to grow your wealth number. :-)
Pensions are so rare these days too man, good for you. I’d probably stay as well and then push the big GO button once that time hits. At least you’re hustlin’ and doing your thing on the side for now!
βOn a scale from 1-10, how bad do you want to leave your job?” That’s a tough one for me because I’d have to fire myself (ie. self employed). So, I guess some days it could be a “1” and then I could start early retirement or on other days it can be a “10” and I’ll just have ask myself for a pay raise.. Odds are, Not!
Yeah, my boss is an a-hole too ;)
2 – I really like my job – just wish I could do it a bit more on my own terms. But I’d totally wear the shirt to work – my boss would be pretty cool with it…
I would say that I am around a 2-3.
Put it another way, how much would I like for us to be retired from earning essential income – I would give that a 10. I would like our chosen work to be the cake and icing on it, while it is currently the main course. I’d like the F’ing t-shirt, though. :P

Sat down today and calculated it out — I OFFICIALLY RETIRED TODAY WITH ENOUGH IN THE BANK TO TOUR THE WORLD AND NEVER WORK FOR ANYONE ELSE EVER!
(Although for a few extra $ I could still contract here and there at jobs I might still like to do, hence I didn’t say ’10’….)
But that means on ANY future job I could get out the ol’ boombox and crank out a ’70’s rock anthem on my way out the door! Too cool.
Rock it, man! That’s awesome!! Congrats!!!
Ha! I’ll throw out a 1 for now, because I love and need the income! Awesome videos, J Money. I love the Kayne dance videos.
This post couldn’t have come at a better time! I am a SAHM but if I were to rate how much I want my husband to quit his job it would be a 10. It’s been an 8 for about 3 years but with no other job prospects it stayed there. Recently a job has been offered to my husband so it shot right up to a 10. He’s having a talk with his boss tonight about the changes that NEED to happen in order for him to stay there. And I suppose if those changes don’t happen he’ll be quitting (hopefully not tonight but within the next few weeks.) He has too much respect and love for his employers to ever quit in any of the above ways though.
That’s a great position to be in!!! I wish the two of you luck with it! :)
I’m at a 9.5. If opportunity presented itself today, I’d bounce from that cubicle farm with no notice, lol!
I would say a 4. I love my job but just don’t make enough money.
This post reminds me of the Simon and Garfunkel song “50 ways to leave your lover”. Sure these are all funny, but why? I guess if you want to create publicity for yourself it’s OK, but it just seems easier to write up a resignation letter and leave quietly.
Also, remember the airline steward who yelled at a passenger, grabbed a beer, and jumped out of the emergency exit of the parked plane a few years ago? I was expecting to see that guy in your list.
Oh yeah! Forgot about that guy…. And agree, no real point other than to make people like us smile for a few seconds :)
I’m at about an 8…the only thing that saves it from being a 9 is that I get to work remote!
Quit #5 is pretty, pretty cool! At least he is very creative on quitting his job with formal attire and back dancer.
I’m at 10. I can’t wait to get out of my current department. I just got an offer this week from another department so I’m leaving soon! I am about to tell my boss today.
Oh wow – congrats! Good luck with it! :)
Im at a 7 because I don’t see much room for growth unless I switch departments. Nice shirt by the way.
I QUIT just under a year ago. I look back and just want to slap my “past self” upside the head. HARD. Should have put in my notice the day I knew I needed to leave, which was 4 months earlier than the day I actually resigned. I used up 3 weeks of vacation time in 4 months just to survive to the date of my departure.
Having FU money is a beautiful thing. I can’t imagine having been in the situation I found myself in and not having a substantial cushion that allowed me to forge my own path by leaving my corporate life [sentence] (albeit after too much hesitating). I’m getting a little nauseous just thinking back to that time. Shear misery.
Good for you for getting yourself out of that situation! 4 months is a long time, but now you’re set for life :) At least from that specific problem…
Definitely like a 2. My job has some amazing coworkers/perks/benefits/schedule, so I’m in no rush to leave. I might eventually, but not anytime I can see in the future. And that godaddy.com commercial during the super bowl was killer. I actually thought it was fake for a second because I was like (this is too gnarly to be real). But that lady is a total badass. Not to mention so much free advertising for her business. Unreal.
I know – how awesome would it be to get that exposure for our blog?? :)
I’m at like a 50! I hate my job and my boss knows it… Though, I love my boss (Greatest boss in the WORLD!!!). I just hate my job.
I tell her everyday how much I hate it she just hired two people to take over for me! I just hope they stick around long enough for me to get out of there.
Now I’ll be able to concentrate 100% on my marketing and advertising biz.
I. WANT. THAT. SHIRT!
Haha… well about to announce the winners, so good luck! :)
I would have said probably like a 3 or 4 meaning I’m mostly cool with my teaching job, but my position at my school is temporary so I’m constantly freaked out about having to move schools so now I’m currently at like an 8 or a 9 because I can’t take the stress!
(I love your blog name :))
My current job a 9. To others it might be wonderful. For a recent college graduate who wants a career. It’s poop.

I <3 my job…….
…but, talk of a side hustle is making my creative juices flow….
That Guy with the Glasses did it to Queen, so he wins. :-D I let my bosses know after I got back from vacation, they wished me luck, and my supervisor made my 125×125 BFS avatar image that I started with. :-)
Hah! Funny!
These are hilarious. I don’t think I can do any of these.
I hope this one hasn’t already been mentioned, but I thought it was pretty funny:
http://brodaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/There-are-two-sides-to-every-story-Jenny-vs.-Spencer-Imgur.jpg
Girl quits her job, then her boss responds.
It *was* actually on my list, and then I found out it was all a hoax!!! But it’s still awesome regardless :)
***GIVEAWAY OVER***
Here are the 3 lucky winners!
1) Will S.
2) John @ Frugal Rules

I’m an 11. Everyday I wake up loathing the place I’m about to spend 9 hours at. I cannot wait to quit and I cannot wait to make a grand exit!
Just make sure you have something awesome lined up so you don’t change one stress for another! :)
