Are Rich People Hotter Than the Rest?

hot messThe second I heard “Rich chicks are always hotter than poor chicks” on Hot 99.5 this morning I was sold. And I knew I had to keep the discussion alive ;) The talk of money & women combined is enough to stop any A.D.H.D man in his tracks!

But before you jump to conclusions as to whether this theory is true or not, here are the two rationales:

1)  People with money can afford all the stuff to make them look purrty. They can buy finer clothes, pay for personal trainers and nutritionists, get their hair did, fix up their teeth, nix fat, and pretty much anything else that money can buy these days.

2) People who are more attractive usually get more opportunities. They carry themselves well, they’re more confident, get more attention, higher paying jobs, etc etc.  At least that’s what “the studies” always show ;) Then, according to one of the callers to the show, they mate with OTHER really attractive people thus producing cuter babies and starting a cycle of extreme awesomeness. Hot people making hot money.

There’s no way to prove any of this, of course, but I think both have merit. More money def. allows you to improve your own look & style if you so choose to use it that way.  But that’s not to say you couldn’t do your hair & find sexier clothes on the cheap too.  Or, for that matter, go in DEBT hawking out all that money for your appearance!  Perhaps that’s *why* people are poorer? (See what I did there? I just changed it around and disproved myself ;))

And whether we want to believe it or not, prettier people usually do get more attention than the rest of us.  Guess it’s just human nature.  But if it makes you feel better, a good portion of them are incredible bitches.  Males & females. So I like to remind myself that there’s much more to being beautiful than your looks. It’s called inner beauty, and it’s pretty powerful. Wow… I totally sounded like Vanessa Minnillo there! (Remember that reality show True Beauty?  It was awesome.)

So do I think the rich are more attractive than the rest? On average, I’d say yes – at least physically.  We could all point to the exceptions of the rule, but I’d be willing to put my money on it if there were ever a way to find out.  Does it have anything to do with our own personal finances though?  Nope.  Sure doesn’t.  Just something interesting to think about :) What do you think?

    J$: I would say that I have noticed this trend.

    I would add that just as wealth is often the result of planning ahead and executing, so too with diet and exercise.

    Didn’t know if you are doing web design, but my site is terrible….

  2. Doctor S December 22, 2010 at 10:36 AM

    haha interesting take on all this Mr. J$.

    Rationale 1 – Don’t think its directly correlated. Rich people may have money to make them look pretty, but it does not neccessarily make them look prettier. Some unattractive people out there in the spot light with some serious cash! But the opportunity is there to purchase items that can create that perception.

    Rationale 2 – I agree with this to a point. Especially depending on industries, but good looking people do make good impressions without even saying a word. Call it human nature or just a person’s judgement, but in a job interview process, it does not hurt to be attractive.

    It def does make you think though. Does it work against people that may be more qualified than soemone else who is more attractive? Sure, but we can’t make a person change their mindset when it comes to evaluating strangers.

    I think… if you look sloppy people will think you are poor. You can also make yourself ‘look rich’ on a budget and possibly become more wealthy as a result because people might treat you better.

    @Too Funny – So true that is. Dieting is VERY similar to managing money, I keep forgetting to blog about that too – it’s going back on the list ;) What’s your website? email it over and I’ll take a look. If I can’t help, I can hook you up with the design studio I’m currently blogging at right now :) They’re pretty chill.
    @Doctor S – I know, it’s crazy. And really bad for the really qualified people who have to compete on something they really don’t have much control over. Luckily though you have to talk and prove your skills at some point, and that’s when anyone can shine :) Just gotta get that first opportunity!
    @Kevin @ Thousandaire.com – That’s true. You been talking to my wife? ;)
    @rubyruns – Yeah, I can see that. I think a lot of people think I’m poor just for rocking my ‘hawk! But in the end as long as you’re truly happy with yourself and your decisions, the rest is all secondary.

    I would agree to some aspects of this. However, I have seen a lot of overweight rich people too. Maybe they indulge a little too much on the “rich” foods.

    We just gotta look in the mirror…yea, it’s true ;)

    I think it also depends on your definition of “hot.” I don’t necessarily think buying nice clothes & nice makeup makes a beautiful girl – some people are have God-given genes that make them beautiful. Plus, the girls who don’t need makeup are 100x more beautiful than the ones who cake it on and go tanning to look sexy, in my opinion.

    Other things to note:

    Water is free.
    Running is free.
    Sleep is free.

    All of which can make you more healthy, therefore, more beautiful. :)

      I’m sorry but water is not free. Do you pay your bills and taxes? I would say water is accessible to public people.

  8. Bobby December 22, 2010 at 5:40 PM

    Richer people are definitely hotter, but they are way more high maintenance. Give me a girl who makes middle of the road money and has that cute girl next door thing going and I’m sold!

  9. J. Money December 22, 2010 at 6:31 PM

    @Jenna – Haha… nice one.
    @Burnette – ;)
    @Sarah Smith – Yes!!! Are you a personal motivator or something? I like it.
    @Bobby – Amen, brother :)

    I’m with Sarah Smith.

    There are plenty of poor people out there who are just beautiful. Maybe not always conventionally, but they are.

    I guess just the markers of good health make you attractive. Teeth, skin, weight, hair..

    Also, a great smile and confidence does much more for you than money in the bank ever will. Rich people may have trainers, chefs and all this money at their disposal for spas, but many people don’t need any of that to look great.

  11. J. Money December 22, 2010 at 10:00 PM

    Oh man, confidence is killer. You have that and you can rock ANYTHING! I gotta figure out how to be *on* all the time ;) I go in phases…. for some reason I’m much more on point during the week, then on weekend I start doubting. it’s strange. unless I’m out drinking – then it’s on baby!!! haha…

  12. CouponPrincess December 23, 2010 at 12:41 AM

    Some “hot” rich folks I know have nasty attitudes or are very bossy. I personally don’t believe the rich folks are hotter, but whatever attributes they have the money will bring out the best or worst in them.

  13. Cassandra December 24, 2010 at 8:49 PM

    If you have ever had your make-up done professionally, you will understand when I say that, yes, money does give you the ability to look better. Tailored clothing always fits better than off the rack, although I only know this because of one suit that I was able to have altered. Professional make-up always looks better than what you can do yourself. A professional hair dye always comes out better than what you do at home. There are just certain benefits to being able to afford to pay someone to make you look good.

  14. Charlie F December 27, 2010 at 4:49 PM

    I don’t think richer people are necessarily more hot. I think that we see more attractive rich people because they’re on T.V. and magazines and in movies, etc. They’re more visible, yes. But there’s so many people that are attractive that are poor, start out poor, etc. And all the middle-of-the-road people, too. How many models started poor? Marilyn Monroe came from a trailer park, right? But really, we just don’t see that many poor people.

    “Oh man, confidence is killer. You have that and you can rock ANYTHING!” —- stole the words from my mouth! 9 times out of 10 I leave the house rockin sweatpants (cute ones, but none the less sweatpants) and as long as I feel confident, I might as well be wearing Prada. It’s all in your attitude, and I like who I am, and it shows! That is what is sexy to me.

  16. J. Money December 28, 2010 at 4:39 PM

    @CouponPrincess – “…whatever attributes they have the money will bring out the best or worst in them.” — oooooh, that’s interesting! So if they were super generous before, they’d be even MORE so now? And same w/ being evil? I wonder if there are any studies on that. I’d like to learn more about that – good one :)
    @Cassandra – Yeah, I’d agree with that.
    @Charlie F – For sure, we def. see more hot people on tv than we do not-so-hot. I think Brad Pitt was once poor too – or at least living out of a car trying to “make it” at one point. All rather interesting.
    @sarah – Sweat pants can be damn sexy too – I totally believe you can rock those :) Work it, girl.

    Good genes also determine beauty, BUT… poor people will deteriorate faster than the rich because of the lack of education, self-discipline, and money, which all contribute to preserving the self. Just my humble opinion. I have seen beautiful hoodrats dancing at clubs, and then a few years later, they would age so bad because of the drugs, etc. Also, I have seen college-educated women who end up looking better than these hoodrats even as they (the rich) are older and would age. Not all college-educated women are rich, I should say the rich ones….

  18. J. Money November 30, 2012 at 2:48 PM

    Haha… I like the way you think :) Haven’t head the term “hoodrats” in a while too – always a fun one!
