[PS: It’s a blogging one. So if you could care less about it, or any of my projects I’ll be updating below, avert your eyes now and check out this oldie but goodie money post instead ;) I know blog stuff doesn’t excite everyone…]
After years of answering tons of questions back and forth about blogging, I finally decided to create a site and copy and paste ’em all on one spot to hopefully help others too :) I figure better to have them out there online than hidden in my inbox for no one to see, eh?
So if you’re a blogger and interested in my thoughts on the subject, or you’re just curious about starting your own one day (or how I do stuff compared to you?), here’s the new url to go check it out:
BlogSexier.com
Of course I had to keep with the theme here ;) I’ll be posting everything from traffic growth to motivation, prioritization, commenting, ideas, networking, site design, social media, SEO, and of course, the always popular “how do I make money from this thing?” arena ;) I’m still doing that consultancy thing on the side for one-on-one stuff, but frankly it’s not as fun as just helping people for the love of it. So hopefully this helps all those with basic questions!
And for those wondering what happened to any of my other projects over the years, here are some updates on them as well:
- LoveDrop.us — Our 2011 philanthropy project where we traveled the country helping one new family a month. After giving out over $90,000 worth of goods and services (and cash!), we halted the project at the end of the year and it’s still paused today… No plans on reviving it quite yet, but we’ve also not ruled it out either. This would change quickly if we ever won a Powerball ;)
- GiveawaysAreSexy.com — My old giveaway site where we gave out one new thing a week, and then changed to hosting *other* people’s giveaways instead because I ran out of both time and excitement. I’ve since closed it down and am now eagerly working behind the scenes at a different, much more entertaining, giveaway site instead ;) I’ll be blogging more about it soon, but if you don’t wanna wait ’till later to check it out, it’s call TakeOurStuff.com. And it’s dope.
- NateandJay.com — Our one-on-one blogger consultancy. Still alive and humming, but more of a “work as work comes in” type of deal… Some weeks we’re crazy busy helping bloggers, and others it’s completely quite. But we’ll continue doing them as people are interested.
- FinancialPressGazette.com — My 3 year old site where I thought it would be clever to post up all the financial press releases I get over the years instead of just hitting delete in my inbox 30 times a day ;) It turned out to be just as exciting as it sounds, haha…, so I’ve since offloaded it.
I think that raps up most of them. It probably seems like I’m A.D.D. with all this stuff (and that would be partially true) but with anything in life you have to cut out stuff that no longer makes sense, and do your best to concentrate on those that do. And even more so in the business world. So we’ll see how the new stuff goes and continue adapting as time goes on!
Just like with finances, you can’t ever stand still if you want things to grow :)

PPS: That awesome shirt up there? You can find it at Raygun.com for $19.00. It looks like it’s womens-only, but it’s not – you can get it in “unisex” size too which is what I did.

I’ve been over to blog sexier already and it has some awesome content! If you’re a blogger you should definitely check it out. Thanks for putting up all the info over there J!
Dude, J Money – you just totally added to my weekend reading list. =)
I’m definitely heading over to Blog Sexier now! Excited for this.
@Lance @ Money Life and More – Thanks so much man, really appreciate the kind words! It’s been a ton of fun putting together so far – you don’t realize how much information you have stored away until you go digging for it :) So I’m glad you think it helps!
@Mrs. Pop @ Planting Our Pennies – SCORE! All this years and I finally made it to your weekend reading list! ;)
@Michelle – Awesome! Lemme know what you think!
Wow that is awesome. I love hearing about your side endeavors. You are definitely a busy guy… Where do you see the future of blogging and our industry going? Do you think you will be able to ride this wave into retirement? Not knowing what other gigs you have going, I am just curious as to what you think.
My husband was just telling me about your Blog Sexier site yesterday! It’s got some sweet tips and advice. It’s thanks to pros like you that us blog novices can tinker around, too. Thanks, J!
I’d always been curious if you made THAT much money from BudgetsAreSexy or if you had some super-secret niche sites that brought in the riches. That you are doing so well with so few projects is really impressive!
Ahhh, you have quite the variety of happenings, well done!
Awesome! Can’t wait to start visiting this. I don’t have a blog myself, but I work in the industry as a web designer, and I find it really interesting.
The biggest obstacle I see is people who start up blogs all enthusiastically and then burn out and stop posting. Some of my favorite old PF bloggers dropped off the face of the earth! So ya gotta stick with it. Great advice.
@Christopher @ This that and the MBA – Great questions! Yes, I def. think blogging will be around for years and years to come, even if it’s called something else down the line. The written word and diaries have been around forever :) Now making money from it? Well, your guess is as good as mine… But any medium where you can capture a large audience there will always be someone/some company willing to pay you to get in front of them. Back in the day it was with radio, then tv, now internet, and next _______ ;) But if we pay attention and continue tweaking right along with time and technology, we’ll be sure to fall into whatever the next best thing is. I wouldn’t be surprised if a handful of us are still making a living in the mass communications field.
@Joanna @ Our Freaking Budget – Cool! He must have got the sneak peek then ;) I’m glad y’ll find it helpful!
@Edward Antrobus – Haha yeah – it’s mostly a combination of all my projects, but those above are just a sliver of them… Though if I were to nix everything and focus only on BudgetsAreSexy, I’m sure I could recoup a good 50-75% of it from this site only but at the moment I’m liking how this site’s going… Usually to make a killing you need to start hawking products left and right to everyone, and that’s not in my top 10 lists of favorites right now ;)
@Anne @ Unique Gifter – I like to keep busy!
@Cherron – Yeah! That makes me sad too :( But it’s totally understandable – if people don’t get the results they want early on, it’s hard for them to keep going… and even hitting 6 months or 2 years is quite a feat for a blogger – that’s like turning 50 in the real world! :) If you ever have specific questions about starting out yourself, just give me a shout and I’ll do my best to help. Thanks for sharing today!
I subscribed to BlogSexier a few weeks ago. You said I was the first, hah! This is a great endeavor for you and an invaluable resource to newbling bloggers. We want those juicy tips and scoops!
Good to see you shutting down what no longer interests you. Use your energy for the things that matter.
@Jennifer Lynn @ Broke-Ass Mommy – Hehe.. yup! You were the very first email subscriber to the site :) If I ever hit it big I’ll have to fly you out and celebrate together!
@R J Rogers – Oh yeah, that’s the way to go if you can do it… Takes a bit to figure out what’s truly important/etc, but once you do it feels soooo good shutting old things down and re-focusing on those that excite you more and have lots of potential . Keeps you nice and energized :)
Looks like a great new site! I’ll be following it. Also, to echo comments above, good that you made decisions to cut out projects not worth it. I’ve seen too many people (myself included) throw good time after projects and endeavors that we’ve moved past. Good not to be stuck, and to realize that we need to roll with the changes!
Yep, a sure sign of ADD and I think most of us bloggers have it. For some reason, we can’t have just one, can we? Nope.
p.s. I love your Budgets are Sexy design, are you planning on incorporating something similar on Blog Sexier? Or are you leaving it the way it is now. Just curious.
Peace,
Missy
@Digital Personal Finance – You know it! We just need to keep asking ourselves what our goals are for them to hopefully catch the duds earlier on than later ;) I should have shut down that Giveaway one a YEAR earlier than I did! Haha… but what are ya gonna do.
@Missy – Thanks! Glad you like the design here :) I take it you’re not a fan of the one over at Blog Sexier? Haha… I just love it cuz it’s so simple and to the point without ads all over the place distracting you ;) But we’ll see what the future holds… Right now it’ll remain as-is as we ramp things up over there and my motivation holds. If I find it’s growing pretty strongly, I may start working on the design again and sprucing it up. I think that’s always good to do every now and then.
