It is no secret that Charlie Sheen is addicted to drugs, sex, and women. He doesn’t try to hide it, for which I admire him. He doesn’t try to cover up his mistakes or make excuses for his behaviour.
However, his recent actions including outbursts, rehab, and parental irresponsibility have landed him in the Hollywood hot seat.
Charlie Sheen is the star of the popular TV sitcom Two and a Half Men, whose unpredictable behaviour and violent outburst against CBS not only got him fired, but caused the popular show to be cancelled altogether.
5 (Financial) Lessons Learned From Charlie Sheen
1) Don’t Take Money For Granted. I have learned firsthand over the last 2 years that money will not always be flowing in. I think that many people who have money take it for granted. Charlie Sheen is just one example of how drastically our lives can change in just one day.
2) Don’t get married if you aren’t ready. Divorce is expensive and without a prenuptial agreement and a good lawyer a short marriage can have a long financial impact. Not having a prenuptial agreement is just plain financial ignorance. Married people always think that their spouse would never hurt them. The thing that married people don’t realize (until it’s too late) is that when people are getting divorced, they hate each other.
2) Don’t have kids if aren’t going to be responsible for them. Financial contributions do not equal parental responsibility. This may be a reason that I am still a DINK. I am not yet 100% certain that I am ready to put my child’s well being before mine; this is why I am currently childless.
4) A bad image can harm your career. Whether you are a self employed entrepreneur, a movie star, or a personal financial planner a bad image and a bad reputation can hurt your career. If we haven’t already learned this from Britney Spears, Mel Gibson, and Lindsey Lohan then we need to learn it now from Charlie Sheen. In business a good reputation is everything. If people like us then they may recommend us to their family and friends. But if they hate us they will tell everyone; not only will we lose existing clients but we won’t acquire any new clients either.
5) You Can’t Rely on Others for your Financial Success. Due to the actions of Charlie Sheen as an individual, several other actors are now out of work. It is beyond their control and there is nothing they can do to fix it. As young professionals we should always have a backup plan, never put all of our eggs into one basket, and never rely on someone else for our financial success. I believe that the days of only having one job are over. Nowadays everyone has a side hustle to earn extra income, a second job to add to their primary employment, or their own part time business to accompany their full time income.

“admire” or “respect”?
I admire him for his entrepreneurship after he was fired so quickly, he used his fame to keep income rolling in. He’s still an idiot, but he did a good job creating his own income streams.
While I totally agree that you shouldn’t get married if you’re not ready – couples, regardless of spiritual background, should go through intense counseling/premarital course – I cannot agree that prenuptial agreements are ok. That’s basically saying you’re planning to divorce.
The only caveat I would give is that if one of the couple is very wealthy and there is a possibility of gold-digging, then pre-nups would be acceptable so that any hopes of making it big upon filing for divorce would be quenched.

“Not having a prenuptial agreement is just plain financial ignorance.” I’m with Emily on this one. What is the purpose of a pre-nup if not to plan for an eventual divorce? To me, that’s just not marriage. It might be the state of affairs in today’s society, but it’s not in my own set of life rules.

I definitely see your point about the stigma of a prenupt. However, I look at it as an insurance policy. It’s just in case of protection. We never know what is going to happen during a divorce and it’s best to be protected.
It doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the marrage will end in divorce, but just in case it does, we will be prepared.. As a product of divorced parents and also as a financial planner, I can definitely say that money brings out the worst in people.
A prenupt is not the sexiest part of marriage but on the other hand, no one should have the right to something they didn’t work for/earn.

I agree with 1, 4 and 5 don’t rely on other people for money, your reputation can harm your earning power and don’t take money for granted. All great advice, but I don’t understand how being 100% responsible for your children and having a prenup will save you money.
Starting with the prenuptial agreement, aren’t you just paying more up front for a contract that states the terms of the marriage, but only protects the money and things you brought into the marriage. That would leave everything accumulated during the marriage and if the two parties hate each other, a prenup isn’t going to make anything easier. I could be wrong on that account, but in general terms that is what seems to be the problem.
Having kids before you are ready would mean there would be a lot less kids in this world. I don’t think anyone that has kids is ever 100% sure about bringing kids into this world.
The days of having one job is NOT over. Only a few people have side hustles in the grand scheme of things. Too bad for his co workers though, kind of suck to get the show cancel on you because of just one guy.
I agree that it’s too bad the other actors have to suffer because Sheen is insufferable. :-(

I feel bad for those that had to hang their hats of an individual with a past such as his. Honestly, I’m surprised that he lasted this long. I expected an OD about 5, 6 years ago.
That’s true. I am surprised it took this long. Charlie Sheen has been in a downward fall for a while. It’s too bad that others must suffer from the actions of one man.
