A quick reminder today:
Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway. – Earl Nightingale
The next week, month, year is going to come no matter what we do – might as well go after what we really want in life!!
Take one small step towards it this weekend and get the ball rolling…
- Make a phone call
- Do a Google search
- Sketch a game plan
- Pay off a debt
- Make an investment
- Clean your room
- Find a mentor
- Write your first paragraph
- Ask someone out
- End a relationship!
- Buy a domain name
- Put down the bottle
- Book a flight
- Call your mother
Just do something this weekend…
Maybe the timing won’t line up, maybe it will?, but you won’t know for certain until you START.
Make one bold move this weekend and see where it takes you.
The time will pass anyway!

Damn good advice. Many years ago when I thought I was too “old” to start my doctorate degree because I would be 35 when I graduated, my friend told me “you’re going to be 35 anyway, why not have your degree.” Done. Degree in hand.
BOOM!
Had been researching real estate for a couple of years. Found one last week that was really compelling. Had Monday off. Found a partner, raised some money, and have it under contract!
Congrats!!
And because you had *done all that research* already you were ready to pounce the second an opportunity came! Way to pull the trigger!
I really like this. I do something similar where I always try to keep doing small, new things. Like watch some of those shows in my Hulu or Netflix queue that are easy to pass over for a comfortable favorite. Or go to one new meetup, or local event that is easy to NOT go to, but do it anyway. Do something to reach out to a friend once a week. Or even just chat with someone out in the world that normally I would not have. I am close to retirement, and have sketched out my daily living plan post retirement and given it a lot of thought. Imperative to happiness will be putting myself out into the universe in service, so I am “loading up my queue” of activity ideas and will be trying them one at a time.
That makes me so happy to hear :) I love the idea of always connecting with at least *one* new/different person a day… Community helps us all thrive!
This is excellent advice. In the past I used to put off stuff. I’d say that I’m just going to do it later when I’m ready. I’d eventually never get it done. Now, I do stuff when it’s on my mind. It’s all about starting. You’ll figure it out along the way.
Yup – that’s because you’ve probably lost interest! We change SO MUCH as humans over the years, so if you don’t strike when the excitement is hot it’s much harder to do later… I used to obsess about going to McDonalds every day when I was younger, but by the time I finally got my license to be able to do it I no longer cared anymore! Probably a GOOD thing in that case, but you get the point ;)
Excellent timing on today’s post along with “Make an investment” :D I’d set a limit order almost 2 months ago, and have been not at all patiently waiting for the price to drop to my set purchase price. It did this morning!
So my next investment thing was to move some more cash into our brokerage to make our next index fund purchase in a few weeks.
Keep doing small things to set up the next days and weeks!
You know it, sister!
Great advice!! I started to get back into programming last summer after 15 years of switching my major to get out of CIS. I thought that I would be too old to get back in there but with so many online coding schools out there and companies still having a high demand for programmers, it shows that it’s never too late to start on something no matter your age. Hopefully I can switch careers to a programmer this year.
Exciting!! Gonna be a fun year for you! :)
I have tell people that opportunities don’t come to you when you’re sitting on the couch. You have to do something or try something.
Haha…. TRUTH
This is brilliant.
It really hit my inner procrastinator and naysayer, hard.
Thanks, J! :)
You got this!
I need to pick up my blog entries instead of spending a week reading others. Off I go!
