Flirty Friday: Beards & Baby Jordans

Here’s everything that went on this week, as well as other interesting (?) things on my mind ;)

Happy Friday, money lovers!!!

Best place my money went to this week: Those baby Air Jordans pictured above! Scored them for only $11 barely used, and now all the baby chickadees will fawn over our handsome little baller ;) (I hear they make you toddle faster too)

Worse place my money went: $25.95 for some blood work? We had a pretty good week money-wise, really. And I’d gladly pay $25 to know my liver is functioning okay any day!

The most *annoying* thing that happened: Having to log into all my accounts and update my new credit card info across the board :( USAA had shot us a new one a while back due to that whole Target hacking fiasco thing, and I finally got around to updating my stuff before our original card expired… A good precaution to have, of course, but man. Reminded me to finally make a list of *every single place* our card is being used at so I can avoid all loss of sanity and/or possible fees in the future! Not fun stuff, but a part of our fiscal life we have to deal with I suppose…

Some things I’ve flirted with this week:

  • Keeping a $20 bill I found on the ground, very well knowing it was probably the kid’s ahead of me ;) (I wasn’t a jerk and I returned it, though what kid/human being is going to say “no” after asking them if “this is your money?” Haha…)
  • Growing back my beard and/or handlebar ‘stache… I had shaved everything off a couple months ago for a nice change, but now – out of pure laziness – it’s grown back and at that stage again where you have to decide to go “all in” or get back to the baby face… Would you like to cast a vote one way or the other? (Note: it does save you some money ;))
  • Starting a coin blog… Even though the last thing I need is to spend more time online.

Things currently on the horizon:

  • Arrival of baby #2 – three months and counting!
  • Filing taxes – Still waiting on some forms to come in before I can knock it out…
  • Paying taxes – The worst part about filing them ;)

I think you could change that to “The best thing I’ve watched all YEAR”.

Those shoes are pretty cute and you are rocking the “flick” at the end of the tache! All in all, a good week!! Haha!!

    1. J. Money February 21, 2014 at 8:00 AM

I’d like to think so :)

  2. Clarisse @ Make Money Your Way February 21, 2014 at 7:04 AM

Here come the taxes again! :) Congrats on your second baby and you have a cute beard too.

    1. J. Money February 21, 2014 at 8:01 AM

Hey, thanks! That means even more coming from a woman too :) (The beard comment, that is – I’m making a note to show it to my wife the next time she urges me to shave it ;))

    1. J. Money February 21, 2014 at 8:02 AM

Glad you liked it! Hopefully YOU’RE a baller this weekend ;)

I’m usually good about returning cash, but one time I was at a divey bar and found $6 in the bathroom. At first I was racking my brain trying to figure out who it might belong to. Then I just thought fuck it and used it to pay for my drink.

    1. J. Money February 21, 2014 at 8:04 AM

Haha… I would have done the same thing at a bar. If sober people aren’t going to be honest whether it’s their cash or not, you better believe drunk people won’t even more! You can consider it tip from having to deal w/ all the lame pick-up lines thrown your way over time ;)

How do you get baby Jordans for $11?

I already have a list of everywhere my credit card is used, in Google Docs (your favorite), and when I add one, I just add it to the list. Also useful for when I move.

I was on the phone with you when you found that $20!

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 7:54 AM

      Haha, yeah you were!

The wifey found a baby clothes re-run shop. You get TONS of baby stuff that was worn like a total of 2 times for 50-75% off – it’s awesome.

  5. John S @ Frugal Rules February 21, 2014 at 8:52 AM

Nice score on the baby Jordans! I went through our taxes last weekend and that is a whole lot of time I wish I could get back. We’re just waiting on a few other things before I send them in to our tax person and hopefully we don’t get killed on them this year.

I say keep the beard and ‘stache. I can’t do a handlebar to save my life, so I say stick with it. ;)

  6. a terrible husband... February 21, 2014 at 8:58 AM

I say keep it – a friend of mine started beardsauce recently if it’s getting too itchy. From what I’m told, it’s a beard miracle sauce (http://beardsauce.me/).

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 7:56 AM

      HAH!

What the heck is Beard Sauce?

      Short answer: beard conditioning oil.
Long answer: beard conditioning oil that will turn your itchy, flaky, dull, lack-luster beard into a beard that is NOT itchy, NOT flaky, NOT dull, and full of the most glorious luster.

      Sign me up! :)

Thanks for the shout out, J :)
    And…
    * Hope the test proves you have a lovely liver :)
    * THAT VIDEO ROCKS!!!!
    * Grow the fuzz, razors aren’t that expensive and it looks good on you!
    * Funny, when I saw a $20 on the floor while in line at the grocery store years ago, I also asked the grown man in front of me if he had dropped it….odd, he said “Yes!” tooo…hmmmm

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 7:57 AM

I think either way we lose, because even if the person says “No” I’d probably want to reward them for their honesty anyways! Haha…

      Also, I love you.

  8. Debt BLAG February 21, 2014 at 9:34 AM

Sounds like a pretty good week. Is the coin blog up and running and something I could poke around on? :)

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 7:58 AM

Not yet. But I shall email you once/if so ;)

  9. Cat Alford (@BudgetBlonde) February 21, 2014 at 9:37 AM

Eeek! Only 3 more months AND tiny itty bitty baby shoes? Adorable. So excited for yall!!!

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 7:58 AM

Excited for you too!!! You get double the pleasure on your fateful day :)

  10. Charlie @ Our Journey To Zero Debt February 21, 2014 at 10:25 AM

Regarding the beard, let it grow!!!!

Nice score on the Jordan’s. It’s better to get low priced shoes in the beginning cause babies grow like crazy and won’t fit into them a month later.

  11. Chris February 21, 2014 at 10:35 AM

Sorry, but I think $20 something would be great for blood work. I had bloodwork at the doctor’s office the other day and it was over $800!!!

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 7:59 AM

      OUCH. Sorry to hear :(

  12. Matt Giovanisci February 21, 2014 at 10:43 AM

Thanks for posting up the video :-)

  13. kathleen February 21, 2014 at 11:48 AM

haahahahahahaa you have a disease. it’s called blogcitis. symptoms include: buying all the domain names, wanting to start more blogs, actually starting more blogs. the worst part? it’s incurable.

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 8:00 AM

      Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  14. Will Murphey February 21, 2014 at 12:27 PM

My wife and I are gathering documents for our accountant today. Blah. We’ll; maybe she is doing more than me. :)

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 8:00 AM

Yeah, it seems you’re on blogs reading now doesn’t it? ;)

That All My Money Video is flipping awesome. Like all suburban kids born in the 80’s, I secretly long to be a hip hop emcee, and immediately start daydreaming that I’m the one rapping in that video…or any rap video.

And my vote is to grow the stache. Go for it.

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 8:01 AM

Haha… I do the same thing :) I bet you get all the girls being a rapper.

  16. Ryan @ Impersonal Finance February 21, 2014 at 5:27 PM

Dude I’m totally rocking pretty much the exact same facial hair right now. Responses range from “creepy” to “not so creepy.” But I’ve got a weird face, I suppose. And nice score with the baby jordans! Thanks again for adding me to the net worth tracker. Take is easy broseph.

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 8:02 AM

      Thanks for stopping by, creepster!

  17. Laurie @thefrugalfarmer February 21, 2014 at 8:06 PM

Those shoes are SO cute!!! And I’m not even into that materialism stuff, anymore anyways. 10 years ago or so, I bought an adorably cute and very expensive pair of Nikes for our second oldest (and matching ones for me and our first oldest. Umm, yeah, that should’ve been our first sign that our finances were headed down the tubes :-) ). I still swoon over that very cute, very fashionable itty bitty pair of shoes. And I agree – the ‘stache rocks!

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 8:03 AM

THAT IS TOO CUTE!!! Now I want air jordans too!!! Haha…. What a cool idea! :)

  18. Crystal February 21, 2014 at 9:57 PM

Those are some awesome baby shoes. :-) My vote is to go baby face…from a woman’s perspective, mustache hair is rough and goes up the nose during a great make-out session. ;-)

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 8:04 AM

Yes, that does seem to be a problem unfortunately… Trying to figure out how to fix that but so far the only way is to NOT make-out. And, well, of course that’s no good.

  19. Christine @ The Pursuit of Green February 22, 2014 at 3:35 AM

Air Jordan’s! That’s awesome…I’ve never had the chance to own them myself. Better take some good photos to lock in the moment!

As for me I made it through another super busy week at work. So ready for the weekend. Tomorrow have to deal with an unwelcome guest that moved in three days ago. Possum in the attic. Money in and money out.

    1. J. Money February 22, 2014 at 8:05 AM

ACK!!! Make sure to get a good blog post or two out of it at least! ;)

  20. Karen @ Money Saving Enthusiast February 23, 2014 at 9:41 PM

Those Jordans are super cute. I had a good week. I finished up teaching my money class to some adorable kids, tutored, taught English to my new five year old best friends, and wrote a few blogs post. So life is good. Keep the stache. ; )

    1. J. Money February 24, 2014 at 6:13 PM

Jeez, that’s a lot. And to think I just went on a few walks and cleared some emails ;)

      1. Karen February 25, 2014 at 7:42 AM

Haha. Maybe you need some Jordans yourself to get a little pep in you step.; ) Every blog post you write is rocking. Dealing with email can be a full time job. I think that can go in your side hustle series. LOL

        1. J. Money February 26, 2014 at 10:44 AM

          You’re not kidding!

  21. connie March 3, 2014 at 1:27 PM

So how many kids are you gonna have? Those are some of the biggest expenses in life, and you ARE a personal finance guy, you know………………………………. does… not…add…up? ;)
    ps Keep the fuzz!

    1. J. Money March 4, 2014 at 5:32 PM

Haha… thx! So far I haven’t shaved it yet ;)

And I’m going to have as many kids as I want! They trump money all day, any day. Those cute little boogers…
